Fantastic news, our student Sam Hurst scooped the title of Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious Institute of Certified Bookkeeper's (ICB) LUCA Awards held on Monday night.
We are delighted for Sam who truly deserves the recognition for his commitment and attitude to training, which have both been exemplary. With an average exam score to date of an impressive 95% and becoming highly skilled on Xero, a cloud-based accounting software platform, he is a very worthy winner.
Sam set up a subsidiary office of his family-run Accumulus Accounting company 18 months ago. Having a background in retail, and with the new office specialising in the hotel industry, Sam realised the need for formal accountancy training if he was going to be effective in his role and signed up for the ICB Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship.
As I and our Head of Accountancy Apprenticeships Victor Gidney said in our joint nomination, Sam has worked with determination and considerable diligence throughout the year. He has also developed his business beyond all recognition - growing from a husband and wife team in a small serviced office to eight members of staff working at premises in the heart of Peterborough’s business community.
After Monday night's success Sam said: "I head up the hotel sector of our business from our Peterborough office from which we provide hotels a cloud-based solution for their accounting needs, using our own bespoke online software so that we can produce a full set of monthly management accounts in a timely manner.
"I was very grateful to be nominated for Apprentice of the Year 2018 in the ICB LUCA Awards and was thrilled to find out that I had won as it recognised the hard work I have put into my work and training.
"Both Riverside Training and Victor Gidney have been fantastic at every step of the way, supporting my training as well as fitting around the needs of our business.
"The skills I am learning are really paying off when it comes to business development too."
Sam clearly appreciates the value of apprenticeships.
"As well as myself, the company has two other staff currently working through the bookkeeping apprenticeship - Adam Peckett and MJ Wright - and we are all supported by Victor and Riverside Training.
"I also have three Business Administration apprentices working for me," he added.
Riverside Training recently secured accreditation from the Institute of Bookkeeping (ICB) to deliver a whole raft of related qualifications.
Our portfolio now includes:
- Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship
- Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping
- Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping & Accounting
- Level 3 Diploma in Payroll Management
- Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Bookkeeping & Accounting
Victor Gidney, who has more than 20 years' experience, delivers all the ICB qualifications.
